grew up in Virginia, and has since lived in Georgia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, Massachusetts, and New York. Outside the US, he’s lived in Croatia (when it was called Yugoslavia), the Czech Republic, Italy, and now Hungary. He also spent a year in Romania on a Fulbright grant.

He is a novelist.

He has published stories and poetry in various literary journals over the years. During 2006, his more of a criminally focused shorts are being featured in Dublin Noir, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, and Fuck Noir.

His first novel, The Bridge of Sighs, the start of a five-book series chronicling Cold War Eastern Europe, was nominated for five awards, including the Edgar for Best First. The second book of the series, The Confession, garnered significant critical acclaim.

36 Yalta Boulevard (The Vienna Assignment in the UK), the third in the series, was published in 2005. It marked a shift from crime-fiction to an espionage focus.

2006′s Liberation Movements (The Istanbul Variations in the UK), was another departure, focusing on 1970s terrorism, psychokinesis, and the Prague Spring.

The culminating book of the series, Victory Square, which revisits the characters of Bridge of Sighs, will be released in late 2007.

He’s currently working on a contemporary espionage novel, and spending his spare time designing the Contemporary Nomad.
